I am posting a yellow picture to honour this week's prompt of "colour" over at Bella's 52 Photos Project, or "color" if you are American, ha ha! {It isn't too late to join in the fun. Simply pick up on the prompt for the week, and link your post each Wednesday. All are welcome!}
As a youth, I favoured black. Black was my colour. It was grounding, always fashionable, and well...comforting! Like a warm security blanket. If I strayed from the standard uniform of black it was to navy, charcoal or dark blue. But black was where it was at, baby.
Now, I look around at my world. The world I've created consciously...and it is vibrant and fertile with colour! Yellows, purples, reds. I've got the spectrum surrounding me at work, and at home in all the details. I am so not afraid of colour anymore. And it is so liberating!!
One colour I had years of struggle with...yellow. I could never fully accept yellow as though it were somehow flawed, or showed me to be well....weak. I saw yellow as weakness. I didn't like that. So I avoided it at all costs. In fact, I almost {I don't like saying this, but...} despised it.
I thank goodness for the wisdom, the maturity, and the acceptance of yellow. It is a joy to me now. I embrace it with love and compassion and empathy. My inner child leaps and dances with yellow! I am so thankful that it has joined my tribe of colour. Yellow, you had me at hello.
Now here is something I am offering as a "cherry on the cupcake" of this posting. The wisdom of my meditation circle friend...my blog friend...my "real life" friend...(the fleshy kind)...something she shared in our little group that made me pause to say YES.
Yes I will feed the good wolf.
Read on...
He said: "In all the people living there are two wolves fighting.
One of them is evil. It is anger, fear, envy, jealousy, sadness, arrogance, self-pity, lies, superiority and ego.
"Which wolf wins?" said the child.
"The one you feed, " said the old man.
wow!
Blue, u know what, u cud have written this post for me. word by word, ditto! whether it is the love for black, and some other deep shades like navy (but only when black was not available), OR the 'almost fear' of the color yellow... and now slowly redeeming myself, enjoying the brilliant palette of colors nature has given me... each and every word of the post is me, when it is you!!!
talk about connections from across the world! :)
and yes, these days am reading a book by Rhonda Byrne, 'Power' (you must have heard of her book The Secret before) and i would really really recommend this book to you. it is teaching me so much about 'feeding the good wolf' within me :)

I too have had my issues with yellow. I have no idea why -- it's the colour of the sun for heavens sake, something that I feel connected to. About 8 years ago I painted my living room and dining room dijon yellow and it's made such a difference in my attitude! I still don't "wear" yellow because it really does nothing for my skin..BUT...maybe it's time I just "did it anyway"!!!!
Glad you liked this parable (I guess it's a parable?) -- when I read it I just felt the vibration move right through me.
And you my dear are like every colour of the rainbow!!! xoxo

I find it interesting to consider how my love of certain colors has changed throughout my life, giving clues to the growth that was happening well below and then above the surface. I actually was prescribed colors by my Ayurvedic doctor! More pink.
A wonderful story to share ... that one has to go in my journal. Thank you!

Gillian ~ Love that yellow and how vibrant it is. Also loving how you've come to embrace it.
That little story about the wolves? Thank you for that! And thank you for playing along with us again this week!

Yellow isn't my favorite -- except on daffodils and sunflowers and on my kitchen walls in the middle of a gloomy day.

Adee we've been kindreds for years, you & I. Thank you for recommending a book to me...I shall go pick it up! Excited now because I love (and utilize daily) the Secret. Enjoy Friday xo

Well then, since you are Morocco bound in May...you shall have to shop for antique Bedouin silver yourself! This beautiful ring came from a shop in Jordan somewhere in the hills...I remember we stopped for a tasty dinner and did a little shopping.
I assume the pink wolf is good. She has to be. xo

OH it's a parable alright...! Yellow I cannot wear either but accents here and there certainly have an influence on elevating the mood. ;)
See you in meditation tomorrow night...don't forget you are bringing with you an object of personal importance.

Bel~I had a nightmare years ago that involved a yellow room. I ran screaming out of it! My dog was pulling me by the leg into the room and it contained baby stuff. (This was before I had children.) You could go crazy psycho-analyzing colour sometimes I think! Yellow is associated with childhood and I often think it is a kind of acceptance.
I love little stories with a moral, hence the wolf story. xo

This may sound funny but if we are talking chakras for a moment (which we weren't but lets) the colour yellow is the solar plexus. Do you have any gallbladder issues?
;)
Maybe a little dose of yellow will be just what you need.

This is such an interesting post. I love the conversations and thoughts in your comments as well.
Yellow, not my favorite in terms of clothing either.
I am still stuck in the first and second chakra colors regarding my color preferences (red and orange). Not sure when I will move up. ;)
I love colors, the bolder the better, the stranger the combination the more appealing to me.

I too love the color yellow. It's so bright and full of life. But even I was not too much in love with it in my childhood or even in my teens. Guess now asI'm getting older I've started to love all those colors that are bright and strong.
I enjoyed reading about feeding the good wolf in each one of us. It is indeed so very true.
[I love your blog and your pictures. I got introduced to your through Preeti's blog, Just a mother of two.]

When I saw the title "Feed the Good Wolf" I knew this would be a good one. I wasn't disappointed. LOVE THIS.

I thought I was the only person who had ever gone through a complicated relationship with color - and it was one of the same ones! Yellow and I are the best of friends, now and my relationship with orange has definitely improved. ;)
p.s. That is my favorite wolf story!
