Grand Central Terminal, NYC
“We are not victims of aging, sickness and death. These are part of scenery, not the seer, who is immune to any form of change. This seer is the spirit, the expression of eternal being.”
~Deepak Chopra
Olivia my eldest is a deep thinker. She is prone to going inwards, and can become quite melancholic, at her young age. It worries me sometimes, but then I try to remember how I was at that age. I had so many questions.
She asked me at bedtime the other night what was at the center of our planet. I told her what I knew, that I think it is fire. Burning gases. Like a star. She wondered if the fire would come up and get us. I told her I didn't think so, but if it needs to come up then volcanos do that job for us, acting like vents. She looked concerned. She asked a few more questions about our earth, basically concerned with the fire. I told her not to worry about it, that it would never happen in her lifetime, and she needn't worry about it.
Then she asked me about our sun. Will it ever burn out? She wanted to know. I told her what I thought to be true, and that yes, scientists think that it will in about four billion years. So you don't need to worry about that either, I reassured her.
She still looked worried, and a little down. Why hon? What is wrong? I asked her. It was then that she said, will we always be together?
Yes, I said. How do you know? She grilled me. Because, I know. Mummies know these things. I said, in three billion years we will still be here, we will still be our family, but we might look different. We might have different hair or eyes. We will still be US, though Olivia. Nothing can change who we are inside. Only the outside changes. We are part of everything around us and always have been. Always will be. We may even look like aliens in three billion years! And our dog Sylvia could be a robot!
She laughed. Phew, that's a relief, she told me smiling. So nothing can break us apart, is that right Mum?
Nothing, kid. Not time or space. One way or another, in one form or another, we'll always be together.
Her tired eyes had closed. She was off to dream about worlds in the future, where little girls and their families live together forever and ever...
Hey- it made me feel better too.
xoxo
Tears streaming...
Was love ever more beautifully spoken,
Love you,
M

This was a most beautiful exchange.....she is definitely a thinker and she trusted YOU would have the answers she was seeking. The fact she drifted off to sleep was a testament that you had satisfied her query and eased her concerns. I got a lump in my throat that she wanted to be sure nothing could break you apart. That is love!!!
XOXOXOXOXO

I'd love to photograph Grand Central Station - and must get to NYC one day.
I came here from Fireblossom. Like you, I believe that family conversations always enrich both sides of the table.

Now....I'm thinking.....
I've always carried that question in my heart. The same question your little girl asked. It makes me wish I had a little girl too. Just someone who would openly ask me the same question, so I could give the same answer.
My boys, specially at their ages right now, would rather that I be somewhere else,(lol!) except when food is concerned.
We ( Hubzzy and I) were talking about something similar some time ago. We were kinda' wondering if we would come back.....or if we could come back and find each other again. He asked me if I think my blog would be of help...like maybe I could write a sign or something..(we were really thinking crazy thoughts that time).
I'm currently reading Deepak as well...his book on secrets with the butterfly cover...
