A bird, from Hawaii. July 2008. Engagement bird? He's cute, huh?
Today the snow remained. I peered out the window with my sleepy eyes, 6:30 am comes early...and determined that I'm more of a beach girl. A girl who enjoys a cold mojito. The scent of coconut in the air. A well done cheeseburger.
Snow is great, for a spell. The kids really enjoy it. So their joy is my joy, though it's short lived on my end. Before long I'm daydreaming of swimming, and tucking flowers in my hair.
I tuck my jammies in around my waist. No, it isn't meant to seduce. It's completely practical, covering my kidneys lest a chill come knocking on my door. The neck doesn't get off easy either, it too must find shelter from an unexpected draft. My good friend is German. She says all Germans are scared to death of drafts. So she gets me. Me and my fear of ill borne winds. They usually result in a stiff back or a bad cold.
So I dream of beach. Swaying palms. My toes in the sand. "On the prowl" purple toes.
The sun in my dream turns my skin to dark caramel and it begins to wrinkle slowly like a California raisin. I care not. Botox is for chickens. I want to vintage. Humans should vintage well; like cheese, wine, or a fine cigar.
Cigars...hmmm. Cuba. More thoughts of sun.
Watch for photos of snow tomorrow. (Sorry, it's all I got.) My beautiful smart Parisienne friend wants to see. So see she shall.
Whilst I dream of sea shells by the sea shore.
For some chillout time by the beach, please visit Chez Jeaux, a new cafe that has just opened on Hooky Beach. Their handsome bartender makes a mean Rumrunner. You won't be disappointed. xo
Hmmm...something happened to my last comment. Let me just say that I adore that bird photo! C'est fantastique! Mais, oui! And thank you for the lovely nod. As for snow, I like it as a curiosity for a couple of days, a week maybe. Then it loses its charm. Like you, I like the sea and sand (although you, the spa goddess should know to wear sunscreen!). I shall look forward to seeing the snow pics. It's my blog's birthday. Merci bien, mon ami! xoxox

Okay, you are right. Sunscreen. I was trying to minimalize! And perhaps I'll court Botox one of these years, who knows? But for now, the mood is, age with style....dahling! Completely natural. Happy Blog Birthday! I'm so excited. Watch for a new post tonight to celebrate. xo

I too am getting tired of the snow and cold, longing for colour and warmth. It has been a harsh winter and we Northerners are getting weary but tomorrow is February 1st, a short month with a pink holiday, and next up is March, the first step towards Spring!
Maybe I should sniff a bottle of Coppertone and be whisked away to the summers of my childhood. Funny how smells can transport you instantly!
Cheers, Shelagh

I'm with you dreaming of the beach and warmer weather, with the scent of coconut and toes in the sand, the gorgeous sun warming the skin.

Oi, we are all so restless in this phase of Winter. Its time! You also just inspired me to commit to wearing flowers in my hair all Summer long this year! Imagine the gloriousness of that!
Posted by: Account Deleted | January 31, 2009 at 03:47 PM
What a gorgeous creature! The bird is pretty amazing too.
It's cool again here. Starting mid-afternoon you could actually feel it getting colder by the minute. Good football weather. They're cheering in Tampa.
I don't care either if my face gets burnished in the sun. My fabulous crows feet are laughing all the way...

"Botox is for chickens...I want to vintage." God, I love you!! I'm so with you on this one. Forget the botox...another round of mojitos (or rumrunners) for moi and friends! They'll keep our soul alive and young and free! Oh yes, I'm heading over to Jeaux's for a nightcap. ;)

hahaha I see every road in your head leads to the sun. I find I am always looking forward to the opposite season I'm in. Such annoying habits we humans have ;)
That is a really cool bird!

South of you, in Buffalo, my feet and nose are just as cold. Sweaty palms and aquamarine waters are my current dreams too. xo

By the way I got your Christmas card--TODAY.
Posted by: Yoli | February 01, 2009 at 01:31 PM
Ohhh.... I know what you mean...I am quickly finding out Snow ain't all that much fun. I liked it for Christmas. I don't think I'll be here next winter,,,It's too cold and dreary. I've been thinking that I need to live where the weather is perfect all the time. Yeah ! We Are wealthy enough to have our Maragaritas and drink 'em too!

Gill,
First of all can I say that you never fail to crack me up... tucking in your jammies to protect your kidneys... and a fear of 'ill borne winds'... LOL!!!
Also read your comment about waking up 'next to a harlem globe trotter'... LOL!!! Can you spin a basketball on your finger too?
I a beach boy... I just got back from another couple days by the sea...
Sometimes at sunset you feel like your in conversation with the sun as she stands just behind the silver green waves which pleat and fall like the ravelled sleeve of love...
She stands there... burning orange behind the blue... her fire bleeding on to the canvass of the sky...turning the world into pastel hues of purple and pink...
I wanna send you the sky my friend,
Cos its what you deserve,
Always,
M

My Lovely!!! I laughed outloud, and it is still dark and early morning ;)
What a way to start the day, yipppeee!!
Waiter, a round for my dashing Mister Bird... Stunning!!!
I love the warm sun. I thought I didn't, bit this year, first time in my life - I have decided that I do, more than I thought...
Here is some glowing warmness, sent straight to you sweet girl! xoxo

I am right with you, cold mojito, sun on my face on the beach...but, since we have cold, I would opt, at this point for some snow, instead of brown.
We went searching for snow yesterday...found some....

I picked up my girlfriend at Pearson on Thursday night, she was stopping for the weekend on her way back from Cuba to the Yukon. She brought so many wonderful pieces of folk art and stories and photos that I felt like I had had a minivacation with her. We cozied down in my house after shopping in Niagara on the Lake and hitting a couple of wineries. We bought food and cooked and drank wine and watched movies. I didn't mind the winter so much this weekend. I had a good distraction.

Oh Kath that sounds wonderful, let's do that this summer, OKay???

It is a super photo of the bird. Mine of them at the zoo never turn out that good. As you know I like the snow, but I'm appreciating the warm weather we are having and enjoyed my brisk walk around the neighborhood this morning! I wish you beaches, Gill.

Here was my reply Tara; I did it wrong the first time ;)
Okay, you are right. Sunscreen. I was trying to minimalize! And perhaps I'll court Botox one of these years, who knows? But for now, the mood is, age with style....dahling! Completely natural. Happy Blog Birthday! I'm so excited. Watch for a new post tonight to celebrate. xo

I'm tired too, but yet more still flies today. This afternoon we are expecting more. I'm trying to enjoy the end of winter, but the mess is really ticking me off!

Me too, he was beautiful. Long stilty legs, and beautiful plumage. He walked around our hotel all the time. Just looking pretty. :)
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:00 AM
Oh Cuba...I miss it there. I am hoping to return this year! xo
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:01 AM
I need the sun to warm my bones! xo
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:01 AM
Yes to flowers! When I was in Hawaii, I tucked flowers in my hair the whole time...you get used to the aromatherapy benefits. :)

LOL~! This is why we are such good friends. You are an excellent ego-feeder. ;)
Your crows feet are indeed fabulous. Looking forward to seeing them again one day.

Miami is full of Botox! But not on you, right Ily? You are natural all the way. xo
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:04 AM
Every road in my head also is prone to daydreaming. I have to nip it in the bud today. Back to work :(

I just flat ironed my hair so all is well again in the world of my follicles. Sheesh, the stuff a girl has to do in a day.
I love your poetic comments, they are such a pleasure to read. You give me a new appreciation for the world.

I didn't know you had cold in Marrakesh, but I suppose most deserts are cold at night anyways. Wishing you warm sunny sunshine to illuminate those brilliant and artistic new floors of yours, and you of course. xo
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:08 AM
Oh you must love that desert. I just adored AZ and can't wait to go back. xoxo (arms outstretched to catch that sun!)
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:09 AM
love right back to you Lala...here's to you and your lazy Andalusian days...I'm so jealous.
xo!
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:10 AM
Off to visit you and see what kind of snow you found...xo
Posted by: Gillian daSilva | February 03, 2009 at 11:10 AM
Oh I don't even try to take zoo shots anymore. The animals resent me, and my freedom.
But that bird had me at hello, he was just part of the scenery at our hotel!!

I'm so early into your blog and I am already captivated by your writing. Such a friendly voice you have :)
